Encryption is the process of converting or scrambling data so it can only be seen by people who have the keys to unlock it. Encryption converts the original representation of the information, known as plaintext, into an alternative form known as ciphertext. Encryption is an important way that sensitive information is protected from unauthorized use. Encryption can be used for files and as data is transmitted over the internet.

DDC strongly advocates the use of encrypted communications for protecting communications within the campaign as well as with key parties outside the campaign.
